Sculpture ‘Young man on bicycle listening to music’

This sculpture is dedicated to Arvo Pärt, famous Estonian composer, who spent his formative years and began his musical studies in Rakvere. It was inspired by the man himself, from a time when he would ride his bicycle to the Market Square (now Central Square) and listen to the radio programmes and music being broadcast from a loudspeaker on top of a telephone post.

The broader message of the sculpture is that every child can become a well-known and respected composer, scientist, or representative of any profession. The sculpture was unveiled to mark the composer's 75th birthday on 11 September 2010.
